Austin Smith

Austin is a strategist, research, and consultant specializing in technology problems facing large-scale media organizations. Austin’s areas of expertise include media business models, audience engagement strategies, analytics instrumentation and reporting, and content management systems. Austin is the author of a 2017 study for the Lenfest Institute, titled “The Narrow Path for Local News.”
Austin is a co-founder of Alley and Lede, and is currently President of both companies. Prior to Alley, Austin worked for the New York Times Company, the Economist, and The New York Observer. Austin is a graduate of the New School and of Columbia Business School, from which he received an MBA. Austin is based New York City.
